A breast reduction procedure is performed by our San Francisco and San Jose-area plastic surgeon while the patient is under general anesthesia, and can be completed on an out-patient basis, if the patient desires. The procedure begins with an incision made around the areola, down to the crease of the breast, then horizontally, forming an anchor shape. Dr. Kenneth Bermudez then removes excess fat, skin, and tissue from the breasts, and he repositions the nipples to a higher location. The procedure typically takes about three to four hours to complete.
There is a possibility that patients will lose feeling in the nipples following the procedure. Dr. Bermudez will discuss all risks of the procedure with you thoroughly before the operation.
Some discomfort and swelling should be expected during recovery from a breast reduction procedure. However, they should dissipate as the breasts heal.
