Breast Reduction

Women who have overly large breasts often suffer from a variety of problems that have a negative of effect on their daily lives. These include:

  • Back, neck, and shoulder pain
  • Bra-strap indentations
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Excessive drooping

  • Self-consciousness

Breast reduction surgery, medically referred to as reduction mammaplasty, can reduce the size of the breasts and eliminate the problems caused by overly large breasts.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Kenneth Bermudez will discuss with you the details of breast reduction in San Francisco, including all aspects of the procedure and any pre-operative instructions you will need. The Breast Reduction Procedure

A breast reduction procedure is performed by San Jose-area / San Francisco plastic surgeon Dr. Kenneth Bermudez while the patient is under general anesthesia, and can be completed on an out-patient basis, if the patient so desires. The procedure begins with an incision made around the areola, down to the crease of the breast, then horizontally, forming an anchor shape. Dr. Kenneth Bermudez then removes excess fat, skin, and tissue from the breasts, and he repositions the nipples to a higher location. The procedure typically takes about three to four hours to complete.

There is a possibility that patients will lose feeling in the nipples following the procedure. Dr. Bermudez will discuss all risks of the procedure with you thoroughly before the operation.

Breast Reduction Recovery

Some discomfort and swelling should be expected during recovery from a breast reduction procedure. However, they should dissipate as the breasts heal. Scarring from the procedure is inevitable, but Dr. Kenneth Bermudez will work to minimize the appearance of scars and make them as discreet as possible. Patients who are breastfeeding or are planning to breast feed in the future should discuss this with Dr. Bermudez before considering the procedure.

Breast reduction surgery has some of the highest rates for satisfactory results of any plastic surgery procedure. This procedure relieves San Francisco breast reduction patients of the pain and discomfort, and perhaps embarrassment, of having overly large and heavy breasts.
